The Cake - our "pièce de ré·sis·tance" (so far).

This is the meanest, wickedest, heaviest, grandest cake we've ever made so far!

Both tiers are fruit cakes (so yes, it's very heavy). We've never done fruit cakes prior to this (and, we weren't very fond of fruit cakes either). But we're glad that we agreed to take on this challenge... it totally changed us! We now love fruit cakes! {We love it so much we are now about to bake some for Christmas!} And, apparently, everyone at the wedding LOVED it, too!
So, not too bad for a first try, aye?! :p

It's also our very first try at making Singaporean orchids.

The panels and cones are white chocolate.
Add all that chocolate and 5 layers of fruit cake altogether and you get a 9kg wedding cake!

The wedding reception was held at The Auckland Museum.
Here's a photo of the cake while everything was being set up:

And, our fully set-up cake table, complete with its very own spotlight:

Word from the mother of the groom: "Everyone loved the cake! It looked marvelous, it tasted so amazing! Everyone could not believe the flowers weren't real flowers. There were so many guests taking photos of it. I couldn't fault you." Us, very happy! :D

Thank you for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!

Yellow Poppies cake

This cake was for Kim's 21st birthday. All she asked for was for something yellow. So, we gave our very first go at making poppies.

The cake is a white choc mud cake, with buttercream finish. Ooh la la!

Happy 21st, Kim! Thank you for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!

Bert & Ernie's great adventures!

A cake we made for Connor who turned two. He absolutely loves Sesame Street!

His two most favourite characters are Bert and Ernie so we set to design a cake based on Bert & Ernie's great adventures.

Here's the 3D cake toppers (Bert & Ernie) and 2D cupcake toppers (Grover, Elmo, Cookie Monster, Oscar, and Big Bird):
And here's the finished products:

Happy 2nd birthday, Connor! Thank you for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!

R2d2 and (Surprise) Rainbow cake

We were asked by a good friend to make her daughter's 10th birthday cake. At first, we were asked to make a simple vanilla sponge cake with a sloppy butter cream finish... but with a twist: the inside has to be rainbow-coloured.  The topper was to be a PRAYING MANTIS! Not one to back off from a challenge, we resorted to praying - that we would somehow find a way through it.

Fortunately, we were given several weeks to plan for it (hint: if you want best results, give us lots of time). Unfortunately, it also meant lots of time to change their minds... LOL! The praying mantis became R2d2 instead. Now we weren't quite sure whether this was good news or otherwise.

After many days of procrastination (please, this is a very NECESSARY stage of the process, ask any artist!), we caught a glimpse of hope, when Kenneth found a downloadable blue print of the fictitious animated droid. And then, hearts sank when we realized the detailed work it required!

After Kenneth had made the foam-filler (the topper would take forever to dry if it was pure icing), Joy still found herself uncertain about the next step. So, she stared at it for as long as she had to...
And when finally, she thought she had it figured out, the icing was rolled and worked on:
By 2 am the next day, the foam and the icing became this:
And finally, R2d2. The whole thing:
Yes, it looks pretty grubby.
The photograph used for this project is one where the droid is actually a bit rusty.
Here is another shot of it by Available Light Ltd:
And lastly, the final twist to this one of a kind sweet creation - the cake itself... is happy! 7 layers of vanilla bean sponge alternated with velvety butter cream.
First, the birthday girl did not know she was getting and R2d2 cake topper. And to top that, she had no idea what the cake was going to look like inside. Too sweet!

Love & Peace

Brenda's Peggy Porschen - inspired babyshower cake

We heart high-tea parties. We heart babyshowers. We heart Peggy Porschen. We heart cakes.
A friend asked us to make a cake for her sister, Brenda’s high–tea babyshower party. She particularly likes the Peggy-inspired cake we made a few months ago, so we set our hearts on re-creating it... only, it’s baby blue this time. Yes, Brenda is expecting a baby boy. :)

Big congrats Brenda! Thank you for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!

Jase + Sarah's Wedding Cake

NEWS FLASH! Our very first wedding cake!! Stepping up, little steps, one at a time. We shall start by making adorably chic wedding cakes for intimate celebrations.

Wedding cakes adorned with roses won't go out of style anytime soon {or more like, "NEVER"}. They are timeless, we think. For Jase and Sarah's wedding, we decorated the cake with ivory petaled purple-ish-centered roses. The two-toned ribbon and silver pearls completed the look for this white two tier-wedding cake. Both tiers are moist vanilla bean sponge cakes with raspberry filling and vanilla buttercream.

And, with the cake topper the couple personally chose:

Congratulations, Jase and Sarah! Thank you for the opportunity to create your wedding cake, and for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!
