Thrishen & Sonal's 'Electric Blue & White Halo' Wedding Cake

The mother of the groom was very impressed with our work (woop woop),
she is now one of our strongest supporters, introducing us to her friends & family
and leading people our way. We are grateful.
She introduced us to another lovely couple: Thrishen & Sonal

 They are a Brisbane-based couple.
We corresponded mainly via email, except for an initial consult
and then a cake-tasting session months before their wedding.
They were both such fun to work with and because they knew what
they wanted for their cake, it made the job much easier for us.

The above photo is the bottom half of Sonal's wedding dress,
which we tried very hard to replicate in the sugar figurine topper.

Thrishen plays the Xbox & his favourite game is Halo.
The topper was completely the couple's idea. Love love their sense of humour!
The whole cake topper is edible - including the wide-screen TV, and yes, the xbox too.

Sonal loves gerbera daisies.
Jane also had to pre-make these before leaving for The Philippines.
It was rather challenging for Joy to keep them intact against
the very high humidity levels in the weeks before the wedding.
But they somehow held up... whew!
And here is the cake being set-up by Jane at the Viaduct Events Centre:

Oh, and have we mentioned that this was our first ever SQUARE cake?
We like 'firsts'! We always love a challenge.

The couple's own words:

Hi Joy and Jane,

We wanted to say a big thank you for the most amazing cake! It was talked about so much and seemed to be the highlight of the night. We both absolutely loved it and will definitely pass on your details for any potential friends and family looking for good quality tasting and looking cakes.

We would like to wish you all the best for the future and let you know that it was a pleasure working with you for this wedding.

Thank you and regards,

Sonal and Thrishen

Thank you, Thrishen & Sonal for joining us on this sugary-sweet journey!
Wishing you all the very best in the future.

Finn's 'Thomas & Friends' Cupcakes

Happy 2nd birthday, Finnegan!

We were not able to make Finn's birthday cake this year
as we had already been booked out from 6 months ago for the weekend of his party.
We were so pleased that we could still make something for him.
Joy hand-crafted 10 edible Thomas & Friends characters in advance
as we knew it was going to be a hectic weekend...

So on the day, we only had to bake and ice the cupcakes,
which are milk chocolate flavour with white chocolate ganaché.

It was an interesting experience getting to know the characters.
Rosie was Joy's personal favourite, with her freckles all over her rosy cheeks.

Thank you for joining us on this sugary sweet journey, Finn!
We promised your Mom that we'll keep your birthday in mind next year.

Julian & Kathy's 'Ocean Blue & Crystals' Wedding Cake

Our mother got married... BOOM!

We did say 2013 started with a bang for us, didn't we?
Jane flew back in on the 3rd, and then mother (Kathy) got hitched the next day!
Fortunately, we had 4 weeks notice (4 weeks!!!),
so Jane was able to squeeze in some time to make her edible flower toppers. Whew!

Julian & Kathy share a love for nature, especially bodies of water.
Their wedding ceremony was held at beautiful Karekare Falls in the heart of Waitakere Ranges. Kathy has always been enchanted by water falls.

Julian, a Queenslander, is a keen surfer and loves the ocean -
hence, the colour theme for the wedding and the wedding cake itself.

Their dinner party was held at Long Bay Restaurant By the Beach,
attended by very close family and friends.

To Julian & Kathy: we wish you both happiness!

Thank you for joining us on this sugary-sweet journey!

Gold & Lime Green Roses Wedding Cake

Hello 2013!

We hope everyone's recovered from the bustle of the Christmas holidays.
Our new year started with a very hectic schedule. Christmas was such a silly season, and just when we thought we were having a quiet start to 2013, we ended up rather inundated - but in a good way.

Our first entry was quite a feat to achieve. First off, Jane was on holiday in The Philippines through most of December and only just came back last week.
Before she left, she was able to make some edible sugar roses.
It was then left with Kenneth & Joy to bake, build and decorate the cake.

The bottom and top tiers were milk chocolate mud cake with milk chocolate ganaché. The middle tier was white chocolate mud cake with white chocolate ganaché.

The lovely lady who ordered the cake for her niece's wedding also asked for another 3-tier which we regretfully turned down, as we have already had more on our plates than we could handle. Not to mention our beautiful little princess who was very helpful and cooperated through the whole process.

We didn't hear from the lady for a while, and this always makes us restless, as we do like to hear feedback from all our clients. But this morning, she messaged us with an order for yet another wedding cake next month. Hooray!

Look out for more posts coming up. Thank you for joining us on this sugary sweet journey!
