Ashley's Cherry Blossom 15th Birthday Cake

Kia ora!
This creation is for a friend of our good friend Christia of Take the Cake, Brisbane

This is our very first attempt at making pulled flower sugar bouquet. What a pleasure!

We've dreamed of creating a cherry blossom cake for such a long time.
In fact, we love it so much that Jane had originally planned to have
a similar design for her wedding in January, but changed her mind
because January down here is the middle of summer - no longer spring.

It was going to be a simple 2D design, but we got carried away... again... as we do... often.
And here it is, all boxed up and ready for pick-up:

The bottom tier was milk chocolate mud-cake layered with chocolate ganache.
The top tier is a red velvet cake, layered with white chocolate ganache.

Thank you, Ashley, for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!

Kloé-cake is 7 months old!

Quoting one lady from Joy's (virtual) coffee group:
"In the words of the ladies at the supermarket: they grow up so fast!"
So, here they are: 30 pretty purple velvet mini-cakes to give thanks
for 30 wonderful weeks of our princess' blessed life.
This month, we have had a huge prayer request answered!
We have struggled with Kloé's skin since her 3rd month.
We have had many prayer warriors - friends, family, relatives, church family...
and we are grateful. Today, Kloé's skin is on the mend,
she even gets to sleep without mittens now.
Developmentally, she is now standing and cruising between furniture.
It's a lot of work to follow her around but soooo exciting!
Especially proud of her having achieved all that she has all by herself.
All we do is sit back, trust her, and be present and available for her when she needs us.
So last weekend, it was time again to visit the North Shore Hospice to deliver
these velvety chocolate mini-cakes to the families and volunteers there.
Kloé is beginning to get to know the wonderful people there, and vice versa.
We cannot wait for the day when she gets to actually help bake for them.

Thank you for joining us in Kloé's sugary-sweet journey!

Thevinia & Asi's White Chocolate Panelled Wedding Cake

When Thevinia & Asi came to us, they knew what they wanted.
In fact, they had a photo of the cake they wanted to simulate.
This makes our job somewhat easier, straight forward.
Here is the original photo from which inspired this next creation:
We try to credit other people's images when we can.
Unfortunately, for this one, it was rather difficult to trace its origin
and the google browser would only give us links from Pinterest.
Anyway... So, we then set out to create our own version of the cake,
staying true to our own cake-philosophy. :)
We note: the roses and the butterflies are edible. Yes, edible!
The roses are made of sugar-gum paste, and the butterflies are made of rice wafers
printed with food ink. Love technology!
Here is Jane (getting married too, in about 8 months)
having fun with the bouquet cake topper before assembling the cake:
This cake was TALLLLLLL and HEAVYYYYYY!
For the chocolate panels & cones alone, we used 2 kg of white chocolate.
From the cake board to the highest butterfly, it was about 19 inches tall!
The bottom tier is a milk chocolate mud cake, layered with raspberry preserve
& frosted with creamy milk chocolate ganache. This was the groom's request.
The top tier was a white chocolate mud cake layered with lemon curd
& frosted with decadent white chocolate ganache. This one was the bride's pick.
Now that's a marriage made in heaven :)
Delivering it to their reception venue at Rendezvous Grand Hotel was smooth
& straightforward as well. Their valet staff were very helpful, allowing us to
park in front of the lobby, making the process so much more stress-free.
Thank you, Thevinia & Asi for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!

Jamie & Leo's Purple Wedding Cake

Kia ora! Feels like forever since our last post.
Although it really hasn't been that long ago.
It's just that so much has happened since then...

So last Friday, Leo, a relative of a relative (guess that makes him a distant relative, ae?)
married his lovely fiancé Jamie at the beautiful Gracehill Vineyard Estate in Kumeu.
Leo is a Filipino & Jamie is from China (wait for it, there is a point to this mention)...

When we met Leo & Jamie for cake tasting and consult,
Leo's mom came with them. Unfortunately, we had only prepared for 2 tasting sets.
Jamie said, "It's ok, Nanay and I can share".
Did she just say 'Nanay'? We loooove her!
(Nanay means 'mother' in Filipino. Much more than that,
it is an endearing noun which is now seldom used in our modern culture,
having been repalced by 'Mama'). And share, they did!
Their colour theme was purple, so the cake details were various shades of purple.
Their florist used purple roses and lisianthus, so we opted for ombré purple roses.
But wait there's more... Jamie must really love the colour purple,
'cause the top tier of the cake was a purple-coloured coconut cream cake,
layered in vanilla butter cream, then frosted with white chocolate ganaché.
Unfortunately, because we couldn't cut the cake to take a photo of the inside,
we can just imagine how pretty it must have been to cut into it.
The bottom tier was a white chocolate mud cake, layered
and frosted with velvety creamy milk chocolate ganaché.
Love it when clients get creative!
Thank you, Jamie & Leo for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!
