Melodie's 5th birthday cupcake tower

We caught the cake-bug (a very pretty bug!) when our friend, Christia of Take the Cake, invited us over one day to help her finish Larissa's babyshower cake. I'm not sure if we were of much help then. Haha! Since then, we have not stopped making cakes! Thank you, Christia! ;) One of the very first cakes we made was Melodie's first birthday cake. Melodie is Larissa's daughter. Yes, the "baby" in the "babyshower".

Melodie turned 5 this year, which means we've been baking and caking for the past 5 years! :)

Mommy, Daddy, and Melodie are now based in Melbourne but this year they decided to fly back to Auckland to celebrate her birthday! We were stoked to be making her birthday cake! Melodie & Mommy wanted a cake that incorporated all these details: red & black, a handbag, a pair of shoes, and ladybugs!

And, so, we delivered just that! :)

And the cupcake tower at the venue:

A very belated 5th birthday, Melodie! (",)

Special Mother's Day cupcakes... a gift from us!

For Mother's Day this year, we decided to do something special for
the mothers in our lives... well, here in New Zealand anyway
(sending them overseas isn't very feasible!).

So we decided to do what we do best, besides cakes:
CUPCAKES,
especially packaged with all the love in the world! :)

As we were collating our photos for blogging, we found out that we don't have a
photo of the cupcakes (minus the packaging). *sobs*

Fortunately one of the recipients of these cupcakes took a beautiful photo of it!
*she saves the day!*

Thank you, Miss. Available Light Ltd. ;)

A very late happy Mother's Day to all! *LOL*

Thank you for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!
Love to you!

Kyle's Pirate 5th Birthday Cake

What a 2013 it has been!!!
We hope everyone is settling back smoothly into routine.
We have had an eventful end of 2013 and an even bigger start to 2014.
We'll tell all when we blog about Janey's wedding to Arvee...

Mean time, here's what we've been up to
in between wedding planning, full time work, choir practices and nappy changes.

Kyle's brother attended the centre where Joy worked at,
and that's how we have come to know Kyle's family.
Here are is our fave shot of Kyle's Pirate-themed chocolate mud-cake:

And some cupcakes to match:

(Ps. No, this is not the same Kyle as the one we made an Old Macdonald Farm cake for)
Thank you Kyle and family, for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!

Ezrah's "Happy Feet" Birthday Cake

Jane's fiance's workmate celebrated their son's birthday with a
Happy Feet - inspired birthday party.

Here is our best attempt:

And the cake came with a dozen boxed matching cupcakes
with hand-crafted toppers on piped swirly buttercream icing:

And for a last look:

Kloé-cake's 12th month Bake-athon

September was a very busy month for us, as we prepared for our princess'
very first very own party. So, to make sure we don't forget to bake and deliver
to our friends at the Hospice, we had to do this 2 weeks before her actual birthday:
Above: Kloé-cake with her Mommy, and the Hospice's kitchen lady Michelle.

Red is Love (Kloé-cake's 10th month celebration)

 Is it Valentine's Day yet?
Well, it doesn't matter what day of the year it is...
These red velvet cupcakes say "love, love, love"!

As you may all have read from our previous posts,
on the last weekend of every month (the weekend closest to the 29th)
we bake for the local hospice as our way of giving thanks
and celebrating the month that has passed in our princess' life.
We have enjoyed this since the beginning and the joy that we get out of it
is far more than what we put in.

Thank you for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!

Kloé-cakes is 9 months old!

Fresh from her Hong Kong trip, our little princess is slowly settling back
into the cold and grey Auckland winter.
On Saturday, she turned 9 months old. Gosh, time is going too fast!

Kloé, you have taught us so much in the short time you have been with us,
thank you for filling our home with laughter and warmth.
We look forward to seeing you grow in grace and strength.
We love you all the way around the world!
Yesterday, after baking and icing 39 banana-caramel mini-cupcakes
(for 39 amazing weeks of her young and blessed life),
Kloé came with us to the hospice place to deliver them
to the patients, families, and volunteers there.
Then off to the local mall to check out a cake competition exhibit
by some of the big-wigs in our little part of the world - North Shore City:
The cake below is not our cup'atea, but it's worth noting that it's apparently
entirely edible and made up mostly of chocolate:
This one below is simply elegant! Easily our favourite for being so chic
and and 'un-literal' interpretation of 'haute couture':
We finished the day off with coffee at our new favourite spot: Takapuna Beach Café.
Always a great soy decaf latté!

Thank you all for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!

Kloé-cake is 7 months old!

Quoting one lady from Joy's (virtual) coffee group:
"In the words of the ladies at the supermarket: they grow up so fast!"
So, here they are: 30 pretty purple velvet mini-cakes to give thanks
for 30 wonderful weeks of our princess' blessed life.
This month, we have had a huge prayer request answered!
We have struggled with Kloé's skin since her 3rd month.
We have had many prayer warriors - friends, family, relatives, church family...
and we are grateful. Today, Kloé's skin is on the mend,
she even gets to sleep without mittens now.
Developmentally, she is now standing and cruising between furniture.
It's a lot of work to follow her around but soooo exciting!
Especially proud of her having achieved all that she has all by herself.
All we do is sit back, trust her, and be present and available for her when she needs us.
So last weekend, it was time again to visit the North Shore Hospice to deliver
these velvety chocolate mini-cakes to the families and volunteers there.
Kloé is beginning to get to know the wonderful people there, and vice versa.
We cannot wait for the day when she gets to actually help bake for them.

Thank you for joining us in Kloé's sugary-sweet journey!

Our Kloé-cake turned 6 months!

Wow, our little baby is not so little anymore.
She recently turned 6 months old, and she's crawling all over the place already!

As has been our custom since her first month birthday, we celebrated with some beautiful baking. This time we returned to the hospice and delivered 26 delicious cupcakes for 26 wonderfully blessed weeks of our Kloé-cake's life.

That's 13 zesty lemon cupcakes with vanilla buttercream and raspberry topping...

And 13 coconut cream cakes with vanilla buttercream and caramel topping.

Such a joy to be able to pay it forward.

Thank you for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!

Kloé's 5th month birthday flower cupcakes

On the 29th of every month, we celebrate Kloé's birth
by doing what we do best... just cause we can :)

Inspired by Shaelyn's fondant-finished Barney cupcakes,
we made these shimmery white flower garden cupcakes.

In the past 4 months, we've just been eating the cupcakes, but this month
Kenneth & Joy decided that a very good tradition to start would be to
bake for the hospice on the 29th of every month.
When our princess is bigger,
she will then get to take them down tot he hospice herself
and hopefully learn something valuable about life in the process.

So that's what we did. We took them down to the hospice and it felt awesome!

Thank you for joining us and our princess in this sugary-sweet journey.

Barney & Friends Cupcakes for Shaelyn

I love you,
you love me,
we're best friends
as friends should be...

Well, hello everyone! Finally got to blogging. Been a busy start for 2013, but things are slowly getting back into swing. We hope you all are having a fan-taste-tic March.

Here is something we made as a gift to a friend's gorgeous girl,
Shaelyn, who turned 2 last weekend.

Here's a very pink Barney:

A very green Baby Bop:

 And a very yellow BJ:

We made a dozen. This is what the rest of the cupcakes looked like...

And just a couple more, cause they're too pretty not to share :)

And here they are, all boxed up and ready to party!!!

Thank you for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!
