December 2009 - Our "eleph-fail cake" is for a babyshower that happened around the time when we've just caught the "cake-decorating" virus. ;D Because we got away with creating a shoe cake overnight, the assumption of course was that creating one with a big gumpaste elephant cake topper should only take as much time, right??? Wrong! And, here's why we call this our "eleph-fail cake":
The cake looked like this before we went to bed:
The cake looked like this when we woke up:
Notice the slight tilt? And, my hands keeping things together?
The cake still looked like this when we went into the car to go to the babyshower:
Sadly, the elephant topper looked like this before we got to the babyshower *sobs*:
(actually, looking back... what a laugh it has been!)
And because of this, we had to somehow salvage what was left of what was supposed to be the cutest cake there ever was (in our world, anyway, haha!). So the cake ended up looking like this:
Cake's white chocolate mudcake, iced with Italian meringue buttercream, fondant-finished, gumpaste models, white chocolate collar.
Indeed, it broke hearts. But it also taught us a few great lessons: plan ahead, keep it simple, make sure there's plenty of time for gumpaste models to dry, and that the confidence level is in check with reality. ;p Oh well...
We feel it's crucial that we are honest with everyone, but more importantly with ourselves. We have blunder moments, often gigantic ones! And it's okay 'cause it's all part of the journey. We learn...
