Melodie's 5th birthday cupcake tower

We caught the cake-bug (a very pretty bug!) when our friend, Christia of Take the Cake, invited us over one day to help her finish Larissa's babyshower cake. I'm not sure if we were of much help then. Haha! Since then, we have not stopped making cakes! Thank you, Christia! ;) One of the very first cakes we made was Melodie's first birthday cake. Melodie is Larissa's daughter. Yes, the "baby" in the "babyshower".

Melodie turned 5 this year, which means we've been baking and caking for the past 5 years! :)

Mommy, Daddy, and Melodie are now based in Melbourne but this year they decided to fly back to Auckland to celebrate her birthday! We were stoked to be making her birthday cake! Melodie & Mommy wanted a cake that incorporated all these details: red & black, a handbag, a pair of shoes, and ladybugs!

And, so, we delivered just that! :)

And the cupcake tower at the venue:

A very belated 5th birthday, Melodie! (",)

Joyce's Safari-themed 21st birthday

Joyce turned 21 in March. We, along with some of her church friends, decided to throw her a party right here in our (Joy's) backyard. Joyce is from Tanzania. So it was only fitting that she gets to have a Safari-themed birthday party!

Here's a photo of her invite - by Milbreé Moments, aka Jane:

And, of course, we got to make her a cupcake tower:

And... the guests!

Our Princess! :)

There was so much laughter because of games like these... We won't tell you what they were doing. Just that it was a whole lot of FUN. :)

There you have it... Joyce's 21st!

Thank you for joining us in this Safari (but still sugary-sweet) journey!

Kyle's Pirate 5th Birthday Cake

What a 2013 it has been!!!
We hope everyone is settling back smoothly into routine.
We have had an eventful end of 2013 and an even bigger start to 2014.
We'll tell all when we blog about Janey's wedding to Arvee...

Mean time, here's what we've been up to
in between wedding planning, full time work, choir practices and nappy changes.

Kyle's brother attended the centre where Joy worked at,
and that's how we have come to know Kyle's family.
Here are is our fave shot of Kyle's Pirate-themed chocolate mud-cake:

And some cupcakes to match:

(Ps. No, this is not the same Kyle as the one we made an Old Macdonald Farm cake for)
Thank you Kyle and family, for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!

Red is Love (Kloé-cake's 10th month celebration)

 Is it Valentine's Day yet?
Well, it doesn't matter what day of the year it is...
These red velvet cupcakes say "love, love, love"!

As you may all have read from our previous posts,
on the last weekend of every month (the weekend closest to the 29th)
we bake for the local hospice as our way of giving thanks
and celebrating the month that has passed in our princess' life.
We have enjoyed this since the beginning and the joy that we get out of it
is far more than what we put in.

Thank you for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!

Dannah's 18th Birthday: Moulin Rouge meets Monté Carlo

We recently had the opportunity to dig our itchy hands into the making of a spectacular 18th birthday party for a sweet young lady. In our culture, 18th birthdays are as big a deal as 21st birthdays (perhaps even more)... We didn't only get to make her cupcake tower, we also got to have fun doing crafty stuff and it was beautiful to see it all come together.
Exhausting... but exciting!

Part 2: The Cupcake Tower...
... the cupcakes:

... and now: THE cupcake tower assembled on our very versatile cupcake stand:

Part 3: Party décor and styling by Milbreé Moments:
The glittery heart backdrop was hand-made by... us :)
Rentals from: First Scene and Centrepieces
We had the idea of contracting a pro dance group for a special item during the party.
The birthday girl's mom tried with all her might,
but they all seemed pretty exclusive and elusive...
so in true "CAN-CAN-do" spirit, Dannah's friends showed such graciousness
and agreed to dress up as her can-can girls
and gave a surprise dance number for her gustes:

... all three girls are wearing fascinators handmade by... us :)
(thanks to Dannah's mom for sharing the photo above)

We even got to be invited as guests - such fun!!!
Thank you, Dannah, for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!

The Princess is Coming (A Baby Shower)

Once upon a time, there was a mom-to-be and a dad-to be who were gifted with a beautiful (couples) baby shower party by their family. All their closest friends and relatives came to bless them with their love and best wishes...

But this blog really is about the gorgeous shower party decorations :)

Starting from the hand-crafted stationery designed by Milbreé Moments (aka., Aunty Jane):

the menu-card:

name bands and a keep sake from all the guests:

to the sweet little giveaways (hot-choc drink mix in mason jars):

the 'tablescape' that's oh-so-enchanting:

... to the home-made desserts / petit fours:

... and fluffy pink and white marshmallows all over the place:

... to compliment the rich dark chocolate ganaché cupcakes

... and cute little decadent mini-cupcakes:

... of course, there is THE ombré-inspired frilly princess CAKE:

... with hand-crafted (by mom-to-be) crystal crown cake-topper and crystal side-accent:

... sitting all pretty on this gorgeous cupcake tower stand:

... and to put them altogether: a dessert table truly fit for a princess!

We hope you enjoyed delighting your eyes on this blog post as much as we enjoyed putting everything together.

Thank you for joining us on this sugary-sweet journey!
(PS. We will be a little out of action in the next couple of months
as we await the little princess...)
