Elegant Rose Cascade Floral Wedding Cake

Hello again!
We're trying to keep up with all the blog entries we have to make, so excuse the blog-arrhoea.
This next cake was for a wedding last January, barely days after Jane's wedding.
The venue was at the beautiful Markovina Vineyard Estate in Kumeu,
and the newly married Jane & Arvee did the delivery & set-up at venue.

The cake toppers were custom designed and resemble some of the bride & groom's
prominent features. We try our hardest to achieve this, sometimes with a light humour to it.
Some details of the handmade figurine toppers:
The groom asked for their initials to be placed on his cap:

And now for the Sylvia Weinstock/Peggy Porschen - inspired sugar floral details
(peony-type roses and white hydrangeas):

And for a last boast:

Thank you, Romit & Bandhana for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!

Kodie's Skate Park Cake

This next number was a collaboration,
so we cannot take full credit for the concept.
Kodie's mum had the idea of using marshmallows to fill the foam pit.
We had to research quite a bit for this project
as we know very little about indoor skate boarding.

We were so happy to make this cake for Kodie after hearing his story.
He is a lovely young man, and he deserved a very happy birthday!

Working on this cake, we learned skating jargon such as:
half-barrel, flip, etc. We only wish we had more graffiti skills...

The cake itself is chocolate mud through and through.

Thank you, Kodie, for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!

Ezrah's "Happy Feet" Birthday Cake

Jane's fiance's workmate celebrated their son's birthday with a
Happy Feet - inspired birthday party.

Here is our best attempt:

And the cake came with a dozen boxed matching cupcakes
with hand-crafted toppers on piped swirly buttercream icing:

Kloé-cake is 10 months old (Pink & Blue Owl Cake)!

Along with little cousin Nathan's 3rd birthday,
we also celebrated our Kloé-cake's 10th month.

We wanted her Tito Nathan to be able to bring his Chugginton cake to preschool
to share with his friends and teachers, so we decided to bake a mini-cake
for our princess too, so we can have something to enjoy with coffee.

The chocolate owl topper we made a few weeks ago was perfect for it, don't you think?

Here is our little princess on her 10th month birthday...
helping her to blow the candle are Tito Nathan & Amang Lakay:

Nathan's Chuggington 3rd Birthday Cake

Our dashing little cousin Nathan has just turned 3!
How the time flies by, it wasn't long ago when we created our very first cake-scape -
a Winnie the Pooh - inspired ensemble for his first birthday party.
Nathan is very much interested in anything to do with transportation.
And the Chuggington series definitely tops the chart.
Because he is 3, we made 3 sculptured toppers of his
3 favourite characters from the series:
Wilson (red and yellow gold), Brewster (Blue and lemon yellow),
and Koko (green and purple)

And here is Nathan, looking as adorable as ever next to his Chuggington cake:

And for a last look...
We love you, Nathan!
Thank you for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey.

Wooooo-hooooo! Modeling Chocolate - our first try.

It's been a long time coming...
And now, we finally got to dabble into the world of modeling chocolate.
Last Sunday, we happened to stumble upon a free demonstration class
on how to work with modeling chocolate. Sweet!

We then came home in a state of "wonder-if-we-could-do-it-too".
There was only one way to find out - TRY.
So, here is our very first modeling chocolate creation:
Jane named her 'Kloé'...
just like our very own little night owl. ;D
Modeling chocolate has it's pros and cons compared to our usual medium (fondant)...
The down side is that it's so pliable, it's eternally 'fixable' and never firms up.
So if you're a bit clumsy, whooooops! And you can't have warm sticky hands.
Ohhhhh, but it is certainly much more scrumptious than fondant - by a mile!
While Jane is preoccupied with her newly purchased tub of specialty
gum paste,  Joy is now hooked on modeling chocolate! So, watch this space.

Thank you for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!

Lachyn's LA Lakers Basketball 1st Birthday Cake

This cake was for a very lucky boy, from a very doting Aunty.
A couple of months back, we were contacted by an enthusiastic lady from Sydney.
She had a photograph of a cake which she was inspired by.
She wanted in to be LA-Lakers inspired, but not over the top...
She also wanted this Bible text to be written all around the cake:
"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
Psalm 139:14
During pick-up, we were wondering why they were a bit late.
Unbeknownst to us, they got lost and went to a different address.
The house they first went to was uninhabited.
They thought we were an internet scam. O.O
It didn't help that our phone was on silent, and therefore missed their call.
Fortunately, someone told them they were at the wrong address, Whew!
Feedback:
"Thank you so much!! I was so emotional this morning lol,
we're laughing about it now haha. We enjoyed your cake loads:) xx"
"Hi Jane & Joy! I never got around to thanking you lovely ladies
for my nephew Lachyn's beautiful birthday cake..
You were wonderful to work with, so flexible as we're in different countries:)
blessings & people these ladies DELICIOUS & UNIQUE"
- Nesa
Thank you, Lachyn (& his Aunty Nesa) for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!

Keren's My Little Pony (Applejack) 5th Birthday Cake

Keren is the darling daughter of one of our oldest and dearest friends.
A while ago, we made 2 birthday cakes for her older brother, the talented Zade.
You'll find our blog posts on these here and here.
What an honour to be making Keren's 5th birthday cake this time around!

When we brought the cake to her party,
Keren and her cousins instantly jumped around with a cheery "Applejack, Applejack!"

Based on our darling Kloé-cake's reaction, the party was just awesome!
Here she is, enjoying being part of it all...
Thank you, Keren and the Cruz Family, for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!

RJ's Iron Man 8th Birthday Cake

This cake was for a nephew of one of Jane's dear friends.
Obviously, he is a big fan of The Avengers, specifically Iron Man.
Making a 'boy' cake (vs. a baby boy cake) is always a little more challenging.
But we love a challenge!

We're very pleased with having achieved a scrap-metal look for the cake.
In the middle of our gloating, Kenneth (Joy's hubby & our all-around handyman & QC officer) made a side comment that Iron Man's eyes weren't straight enough. Ugh! Boys!
But all in all, this was a fun cake to create.
Thank you RJ for joining us in this sugary-sweet journey!
