Cricket Cake, Hughlala!!!

25th April 2011: Here's a cricket-themed birthday cake for a cricket fan. This is aka the LOL cake... thank goodness it's for a friend's hubby's bday! ;D

There's a story to this, so please bear with the longer than usual post.

Three weeks ago, our dear friend, Radda, e-mailed us. She'd like us to make a cake for her hubby's birthday. They live in Napier. So, how to send the cake to them? We looked at the possibility to courier. A few days later, she told us they were coming up here in Auckland for the Easter and that we can make the cake then. (In my mind: Okay, so maybe she's planning to throw a party for hubby with Auckland friends.) So everything's good so far...

Come Monday morning. Cake's on the cake stand... so cute, and ready to picked up. :) Yes, everything is good!

Text convo:
Me: Hey, the cake is butter-free. Just in case you guys aren't into butter. :)
Her: Oh, good! Coz I'm planning to keep it until 23rd May.
Me:  O.O

oohhh, everything's not so good!

LOL! We had such a big laugh! It was great catching up with them!

Well, they ended up having a party with their Auckland friends that night to celebrate his birthday... because there's a cake... a month in advance! ;D

So, here's the chocolate-flavoured cake with vanilla butter(not!)cream and fondant decors:

Advance happy birthday, Hugh! ;p

Flutter by Butterfly Cake

Someone left a message on my phone, and I was so happy to know that it's from a friend's friend who happened to open our facebook page while browsing. (Oh, facebook, how i love you!) Her baby, Anica, is turning one. She said she loves the look of our cakes, and asked me if we can make one for her darling baby girl. (Awww! Thank you!)

So she sent us this image to base our cake design on:

Flowers and butterflies then. ;p

Here's the cake:

And we made a dozen and a half cuppy cakes to match the cake, too:

Cake and cupcakes are all chocolate-flavoured with chocolate glaze and buttercream frosting.

Happy 1st birthday, Anica!

Dylan's 1st birthday cake

March 2011: Jungle-themed cake for the birthday boy, Dylan. And, it's his first birthday! Awww!!!

You might be thinking right now, "Jungle-theme???" ;p

We image-googled "jungle-themed cakes" and pretty much every photo is of a cake with a collection of miniature animals of different kinds. So we thought, "hmm... why not choose two animals and just work with that?" ... so there you go, you have a baby giraffe and a monkey! ;D

So, some more photos, eh?

Happy birthday, dear Dylan!

Cupcakes for Canterbury

5th March 2011: Here are photos of the cupcakes we made for Delish Cupcakes' "Get your bake on for Canterbury", with all proceeds going to the Red Cross Canterbury Earthquake Appeal. For those of you who aren't aware of what happened... On the 22nd of February, a magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck near Christchurch causing extensive damage to the area and leaving so many people in need of assistance. For more info on this, please click here.

I know that NZers are doing their part to help in anyway they can. And because we are into baking, we were very happy to learn that Delish Cupcakes was organising the said event.

Here are our cuppy cakes:

Even the muggy drizzly weather that day did not stop people from dropping by and grabbing some yummy sweet treats!

The Bake sale was able to raise $13,328.80... there were lots and lots of people who baked and helped on the day! It was so much fun and heartwarming to have been part of this!

Strawberry & chocolate birthday cake

November 2010: November is my birthday month, and a friend organised a birthday party for me. {Awww! Thank you, Barbosa's!} I rarely celebrate my birthday, and as much as I love planning/organising parties for others, I shy away from doing one for myself. ;p

We (well, mainly my sister, Joy, and a friend) made this no fuss cake... simple and sweet! And, I love it!

It's a cream-cheese-filled white chocolate mudcake.

Strawberries dipped in chocolate:
